So long … 2010

by Gu on January 7, 2011

2010 has been an eventful year yet without drama, despite the world around us is spiraling downhill in more ways than one can comprehend.

I have seen myself progress in a direction that will hopefully lead to something great, but the journey to get there has been full of ups and downs thus far.

I shot more personal projects than commissions in 2010, I am poorer but more content; I travelled more than I budgeted for in 2010, I am even poorer in the bank but richer in spirit; I left the comfortable lifestyle in Manchester and came to London, now I am so poor that even myself find it hard to swallow; I also had more opportunities to choose a different path in 2010, I decided to run along with my heart and remain poor for the time being, while investing in building a better future.

With these thoughts in mind, I decided to gradually share some of my work from the past 12 months, those of which are close to my heart but not quite portfolio material. As usual, your comments are always welcome here.

Autumn Colour

Saint Emilion, the place where I fell in love with Chateau Figeac, 2000 in particular.

Burning Sky

It may be the morning chill, it may be the colour of the sky at 6am, but I deeply fell in love with Iceland from this moment on.

My love for Iceland just grew stronger …

New Year, New Work, New Website

2010 has just left us, I felt the new year started with a positive vibe, with new work and new website’s recent debut, it is down to me to keep up the positivity and build on it.

I was fortunate enough to have my parents over for Christmas, despite the snowy weather here in the UK. I can tell you that nothing melts the winter cold than the family warmth, period.

Our time was spent dodging both the snow and London tube strike, also travel around England in the winter season. We headed south this time, completed a round trip along the Southern coast. The weather hasn’t been particularly “photographer friendly” for the most, but I was immensely drawn to such overcast, dull and dark days, especially when it comes to landscape work. Perhaps there is a dark spot deep in me that I am unaware of.

Land's End, Cornwall, England

Our trip lasted a week, we left footprints in Canterbury, Brighton, Lyndhurst, Ringwood, Weymouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Penzance, Cape Cornwall, St Ives, St Just, Marazion, Weston-Super-Mare (I dig the name big time!!), finally back to the big smoke via Oxford.

Lands End, Cornwall, England

Though I do try to take in as much as I can on all my travels, I did struggle to connect with the essence of each place on the trip, probably due to my other duties as an interpreter, a chauffeur and an unqualified guide. I did however, took home a couple of images that I am pleased with.

And finally, below is the link to my new website. I would be eternally grateful if you could take a look and let me know your thoughts.
